Video production process:

We regard every project we undertake and every client we work alongside as unique.

At the start of a project we will show clients examples of work that we believe dovetail with their project. This is primarily to demonstrate potential stylistic and thematic Pinsharpproaches, however, we must stress that we never work from a template and are always keen to emphasise a client's uniqueness.

As a result of this philosophy we always push for client input.

Breakdown of process:

Pre-production: At the start of a project we would have an initial discussion via phone or face-to-face to establish the requirements of the client. We would formulate an idea about who the project is aimed at and what the basic set of messages are that need to be communicated. A draft budget would be agreed subject to the final treatment and schedule of filming. This might also be the time to discuss the most suitable methods of delivering the message – DVD, CD-ROM, website, print or a combination.

Vital to the collaborative process is constructing open lines of communication and at this point we agree a person to act as our point of communication with the client.

A basic treatment is written. This can consist simply of major bullet points or perhaps a page of ideas. The treatment can be originated solely at our end, via the client or in collaboration. Versions of this treatment would usually be worked on together via email.

When everyone is happy that we have a treatment covering the relevant areas we would come together for a meeting to further discuss and hone the ideas. At this meeting (if all parties agree) we will work on a production schedule.

Production filming: Every film dictates its own schedule that can be affected by a number of variables. However, in our experience once we have a solid treatment it is usually a straightforward job to decide the required time for shooting.

Once a schedule is agreed we shoot the footage required (and usually some unexpected extras). We are a two man company, working with lightweight cameras and, where necessary, lights. We are experienced in working in diverse environments and pride ourselves on producing as little stress in clients as possible.

Post-production: Editing is something we perform in-house. This allows us to retain control both of the film’s aesthetic and budget. The process usually involves the editor/graphics artist constructing an on-line film as close as possible to the final cut. This can then be watched as a viewing copy DVD that we send out to clients. At this stage amendments can be made to the edit. Once a version of the film has been signed off a finalised DVD with menus is usually designed and this is again sent out for viewing.

Once the final version film and DVD is signed off duplications of the disc can then be made. This is subject to the client’s needs obviously.
